Fingal County Council’s Community Development Office has released the first video of a series promoting their dedicated Community Facility Management Support Unit.
Launching the video series, Councillor Howard Mahony, Mayor of Fingal, said:
“As Mayor of Fingal I am very pleased to launch this video series which highlights the great work being undertaken by our voluntary boards of management, our community centre staff, volunteers and the Facilities Management Unit of the Council and the Fingal Community Facilities Network in the provision and running of our wonderful community facilities across the County. I look forward to seeing our new centres in Meakstown and Baldoyle coming on stream in the future. Our Community Facilities are at the heart of communities and are a visual representation of the great community spirit which is evident across Fingal. I look forward to seeing the full suite of videos as they are released”.
Speaking in the video, Principal Community Development Officer Linda Ennis explains:
“We cater for people of all ages and strive to create a sense of community for all. We offer affordable meeting and recreation spaces and operate an open-door policy, where everyone is welcome. Our own Community Facility Support Unit is a highly skilled team, offering support to Community Centres across the county.”
The video features 3 community centres from the Network. Donabate Portrane Community Centre has a gym and library onsite. Mulhuddart Community Centre is a thriving community facility offering services such as childcare and Foróige’s Mulhuddart Community Youth Project. Ongar Community Centre shares its facilities with St. Benedicts National School and includes a full-size All-Weather Pitch.
The video features contributions from facility employees and Mulhuddart Community Centre Chairperson and former Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Mary McCamley, who comments:
“We’re really very busy here in Mulhuddart Community Centre. We’re open 7 days a week and we liaise a lot with Fingal County Council who own the building here, through our own Community Development Officer and the Facilities Management Team in order that we meet the needs of the people in the area.”
